Relentless Man City overpower Everton to extend Premier League lead

Second half goals from Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva earned Manchester City a 3-1 win over Everton as they extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to 10 points.

After Richarlison had cancelled out Phil Foden’s opener in the first half, City recovered after the break and scored two well-deserved goals to ensure they came out on top.

Mahrez re-established the lead with a wonderful curling effort that crashed in off the post in the 63rd minute, before Silva netted from the edge of the box- partly thanks to some suspect goalkeeping from Jordan Pickford- to make sure of the points 15 minutes later.

The completion of the fixture, which was originally meant to be played in December but was postponed after a coronavirus outbreak amongst the league leaders’ squad, means City have now played the same amount of games as closest challengers Manchester United, who they now hold a commanding double figure lead over after 24 outings.
